A Day In My grandparent’s Lives

An Incident in My Grandparent’s Lives

It was a school holiday, but my uncle, who was six years old at the time, had to attend school for Feast Day. He was told by my grandparents that he would be picked up after school. However, his school closed within an hour and he got bored staying on in school waiting to be picked up. So, he decided to go home on his own. He knew the way home since he used to travel by school bus everyday and had the route memorized. However, this was unknown to my grandparents. When my grandmother reached school to pick him up, she couldn’t find him. She checked with the school watchman who told her that he had left a couple of hours ago. When my grandmother heard this, she went into a frenzy. Since there were no mobile phones at that time, she hurried home and checked if he had arrived, but there was no sign of him there either. That’s when chaos broke out. Everyone in the house started calling everyone they knew, checking with them to see if they had seen him. She panicked and called my grandfather and my great grandfather who advised her to inform the police about a missing child. Before she could speak to the police, she double checked with her other sons to see if they had seen any sign of him. Just then waltzed in my uncle. When he arrived, he explained to my grandmother that he walked home from school all by himself. My Grandmother was ASTOUNDTED that her very own six year old son had walked 7 kilometres but she was relived to finally have him home safe.
