Barry Shefilieds Life in the War

My name is Bary Shefield. I was born in 1941 during World War II. I was living in England at the time. My family was usually apart, My father had something called Reserved occupation. That meant he never went into the army but he had to go to a factory everyday to build aircrafts. My life was just living with my mother daily since I didn’t go to school till I was 5 but by that time the war had ended. One of the toughest times in this period was when I escaped the bombing to the East coast of England. Although I was very lucky,  my brother and my mother came with me. It was only my father who was left in London working.

Even though I didn’t have to make any big adaptations because I was born in the world, if I had to pick one just one lesson for young people today to know is to always work together and be very grateful for what you have.

It was a bad time in the beginning of the war because we were bombed. And we had to help each other. For example, everyone’s garden became a farm where we planted our own fruit even in London in the parks. because Britain had become very poor. Because they had spent all their money on the army. Even after the war it took around 50 years to get the money back in place.

If I had to pick just one lesson for young people today to know is to always work together and be very grateful for what you have.
