Fighting against Soviet occupation

Amid rising tension in 1991 Lithuania, a grandfather joins a peaceful resistance to protect freedom, watched from afar by the family he sent to safety.

The Soviets, who already occupied several strategic buildings like the radio or television, were broadcasting propaganda. The Lithuanians and other Baltic nations were actively resisting, and the tension got even heavier after the Lithuanians regained the television and radio, who were now, again, broadcasting Lithuanian news.

It was clear that the Soviets will try and regain control of the television and radio again. The Seimas (you will need to google it there was no translation into English) who now had new, Lithuanian politicians working in it, was the main target to take over for the Soviets.

On January 12th 1991, it was clear, that the Soviets will try and regain them so people started to go to the television tower, the radio and the Seimas to defend them. In Šiaurės miestelis, where the Soviets had stationed their tanks the walls where demolished so they could get out of there very quickly. So, on the 12th of January my grandpa picked up my mom and my uncle and drove them to Elektrėnai, but my grandpa and grandma stayed. In the evening of the 12th January my grandpa and grandma turned on the television and half asleep watched it until at about 22:30 the assault on the television, radio and Seimas began, a lot of people where already there so my grandpa also went there with his friends.

As they were in the car one of the smaller radio stations they listened to said that the assault on the television and radio has already been completed, so the best thing to go to was the Seimas, so they drove to the Seimas.

As they arrived, they just stood around some people even had going on some fires as suddenly someone said there is a person looking for Marius Grinevičius (my grandpa).  He went to the place where he was ordered to go and saw my grandma waiting there.

They waited there the whole night, but it seemed as if the Soviets retreated from such a big crowd of people.
